Located 500 meters away from the mainland, Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a place of great scenic beauty, historical importance, and religious significance. On this rock, a captivating memorial of Swami Vivekananda has been built which was inaugurated in the year 1970. This was to honor the great saint and leader of India, Swami Vivekananda who has visited Kanyakumari in 1892, a few days before leaving for Chicago for the World Religious Conference. He had then visited the rock and meditated here for two days. Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a popular tourist monument in Kanyakumari, India. It was built in 1970 in honor of Swami Vivekananda who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock. According to local legends, it was on this rock that Goddess Kumari performed austerity. A meditation hall known as Dhyana Mandapam is also attached to the memorial for visitors to meditate. The rocks are surrounded by the Laccadive sea. The memorial consists of two main structures, the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam.
Next to the Vivekananda rock is another rock with Thiruvalluvar Statue, a Tamil philosopher and poet who authored Tirukkural.
